3.5 stars for the end of my review, but 4 all around. Nice ("early") dinner at The Prawnbroker with friends. Because we were early, we were given the early bird menu option. From the look of a not so crowded restaurant, we were either super early at 5 (early bird goes to 5:30, I think it was noted as), or no one around here eats at that hour. Point proven was when the place "all of a sudden" got crowded at 6 (yes we were still there). For not being of senior age, I felt no qualms about ordering off the said early bird menu (aka the Early Catch menu). It's a little cheaper, a little lighter in portion, but just as great. One other person ordered off the same menu and the third person in my party had to be the odd man out and order off the regular menu. What did we have, you ask? I had the Louisiana Catfish, blackened. It came with steamed veg, a baked potato and I chose the (New England) chowder instead of salad. The chowder was thick and creamy, the veg was steamed enough that it had just the right bite, and the catfish had a nice after kick with the seasoning. I think this is one of the few times I've ordered something "blackened" and got the spices it says it comes with. Budweiser in a glass, on the side, please! The person who also ordered off the early bird, had ordered the Atlantic Salmon with dill sauce. Paired with the Caesar salad (with anchovies) and a baked potato, she said that she's in love with the fact she got the little fishies on her salad and the salmon was amazing. Would order again. Iced water for drink. The third person, who opted to go broke or go home, ordered the Crunchy Plate (crusted grouper and shrimp.... which he raved about from the moment we sat down and got our menu. He's ordered it before and L O V E S it). With the chowder as the side, along with a baked potato, it was a hearty meal and it would be something I'd think about ordering the next time I go here. He had literally licked his plate clean, and still had room for dessert! Glass of wine.. who'd have thunk to pair it with grouper and shrimp?? With a shared, single piece of Key Lime Pie among three people, each ordering a cup of coffee, it was a great way to end the meal. Would I go again? Sure! Why not? I saw nothing wrong with the staff, food or building. If you count the smallish parking lot and line out the door when we were leaving, as the downfall, so be it. It's quick to get to, easy to order, but my only big suggestion would be: a little more lighting inside. There was a point where even the waitstaff said "It's too dark in here". Maybe it was due to the impending storm, but even still... I like to be able to look around and people watch while I am eating. Thanks!

Meh. It was nice to stop for some seafood on the way to Miami. First, we had clam chowder. I appreciated how much clam was in it, but the potatoes were crunchy and very undercooked, which really took away from the chowder. Next, we ordered the broiled platter to share. Everything was a bit overcooked. It wasn't inedible, but the fish was flaking to the point of disintegrating. The scallops were a bit rubbery. Everything was covered with much too much butter. The stuffed shrimp were the best thing on the platter. The stuffing was mostly crabmeat with just enough breadcrumbs to keep it togeather and attached to the shrump. The shrimp itself was nicely cooked. The stuffed shrimp are really what is keeping this review from being a 2-star. I could tell this was more of a bar for old people to hang out and drink. There's nothing wrong with that, but you probably want to pick a different place for a nice meal.

Wow!! For a Maine Lobstah girl to rave about the seafood and Loster dishes, it's INCREDIBLE!!:) Very simple, Conservative decor with booth and table style seating. Good prices. Fabulous wait staff.

Have driven by this restaurant and even eaten at some of the other restaurants in the same plaza and finally stopped in for a late dinner. They have some great specials, one of which we had which was a whole lobster for under $20. We also had the crab stuffed shrimp, along with all the sides/salads/chowders that come with entrees. Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. It's definitely a great place for a special occasion or a yummy night out of tasty seafood!

I have eaten here on many occasions. Steaks and seafood were always delicious. Usually had a group of 5 or 6 people and no real issues on any visits. The service was always good and tentative. I would consider this to be leaning more towards upscale, as the prices will reflect. Definitely recommended.

I had the sea bass special and it was amazing. My husband had another mixed seafood special he was very happy with. Drinks were very well priced my dirty martini was one of the best I've had at a very good price. My dinner was so large I brought half home. Would definitely be back. Service was very friendly and very good as well. Their bread is delicious!

Great seafood and large portions. Swordfish, tuna and sea bass were hits at our table. Good caesar salads. Limited chicken and steak options.

We had a great meal here tonight. This is one of the group of fine restaurants owned by a local man, very well run, consistent staff and high quality experience on all levels. I can't imagine why there are a few bad reviews (? Although one poster did say he ordered pasta and chicken at a seafood restaurant so maybe that informs his comments?), we frequent Prawnbroker regularly and it never misses. I had the Crunchy Plate (shrimp and grouper, baked potato and wedge salad ) and ate every bite. It's all good and the service and atmo is just right. Yay.

There's a good reason this place has been in business for decades- the food is fantastic.

The food just lacks the great flavors you would expect for the price they charge. My fillet was drab tasting in bad need of fresh garlic, herbs and other spices. My ladies scallops were bland as well. The cheese on my loaded baked potato tasted like cheese whizz. Great seafood and steaks aren't here. Go to the Roadhouse instead.

I just bought 2 doz. oysters and shucked them at home. These were among the best oysters I have ever had! The sweetness & freshness of these delicacies cannot be attributed to the good folks @ Prawnbrokers but it speaks volumes regarding their commitment to selling only the best and freshest!!!! See you soon.

Wonderful dinner. Had the sea bass it was one of the best I've ever had anywhere! Recommended. Also had the clam chowder. It was ok, nothing special. Husband had the Maine lobster. He said it was just ok. However, he had the escargot and loved it! Best he's ever had. We would definitely return.

Ordered the local crabs. One fried and sautéed. Both were very good. Also had snapper blackened. Highly recommended the snapper. Also had oyster rockfeller appetizer. Was decent. Over a great experience!

This is a local favorite! We've been here before and the food was great! Clam chowder and crab stuffed shrimp tonight. Yummm! Get here early, place fills up fast! Parking is limited. Great location.

What a find! Service was prompt and courteous. We ordered from specials menu - fried soft-shelled crab dinner for me, bouillabaisse for my mother. Everything was delicious and hit the spot. The crème brulee for dessert is locally made, as is the apple crisp. A patron at the next table says she eats here every time she comes to town on business from Ft. Lauderdale, and she always has a good experience. Ambience was good, a nautical feel without going overboard - a casual elegance. I would definitely eat here again if I'm ever in the area.

Upon entering, I saw that the restaurant was far from busy. As a matter of fact, it was quite slow. The first thing I was met with was the server podium, and right behind that was the "fish monger", complete with a long-dead almost rotten snapper in the fish case. It was hard to tell if it were even real, but a fake fish would have at least looked good! Red flag #1! The decor was... boring...lacking. It was all clean, but this same decor could have been a seafood place, a steakhouse, a bistro, anything. Just clean tables and chairs, but it said nothing about being a fish market or seafood restaurant. I almost fell asleep walking to the table... After being seated, it still took a solid 10 minutes before anyone stopped by the table, and even then, no waters! They had to be specially requested. Red flag #2. I ordered the Pasta Provencal with chicken and a Gulf Harbor, which is basically a dirty martini. The martini arrived in a small glass with 2 huge blue cheese stuffed olives, which were busy clouding the vodka in an unappetizing fashion. The martini was accompanied with a small carafe with the remaining martini, since the glass was so small. The martini that was in the glass was more akin to a real dirty martini. What was in the carafe was more of a straight up martini. This thing was 2 distinctly different martinis. Red flag #3. The salad that came with my meal was delivered with the dressing already on it, seemingly in an attempt to conceal the very brown lettuce. I was able to fish out a kalamata olive, which when I bit into it, discovered that it was pretty decomposed. Red flag #4! Dammit! I was hoping to like this place! With a fresh salad in place, my meal arrived. It was... meh. Ok. Nothing outstanding. The olives contained therein were more of the decomposed variety that turned to gel under tooth. I was also able to locate a total of 2 capers! Hurray! The chicken had the distinct texture of a fowl that had been frozen, thawed out, refrozen, thawed and cooked. Service, overall, was slow. Too much time after being seated and too much time between courses. If it were slammin' busy, I would have expected that, but not on a slow night like tonight. Will I return? Nope. Not even if you pick up the whole tab. ***UPDATE*** I warmed up my leftover pasta less than 20 hours later. Added some taste with some herbs de provence, a little olive oil and balsamic. A fork of pasta turned out to be quite tasty, however when I bit into a piece of chicken, I found it rancid! Spit it back out and right into the trash it all went. Yes, I brought it straight home and into the fridge. I don't feel so good...

Due to Yelp reviews, we decide to try this place while vacationing in Fort Myers last week. The decor, meh ok I guess. Pretty standard, not much personality but ok I guess. Not as nice as Red Lobster (which isn't saying that much). The service was very good, not an A but maybe a B+. The food was really great in many ways. I had grouper and it was wonderful. I also had their Manhattan Clam Chowder which was out of this planet good !!! The best I've ever had. I do have one small compaint. The person who bussed the table near us was using some gloves to clean the dishes and stuff off the table. Unfortunately, she used the very same gloves to put out the silverware, and table settings. I'm certain that's a huge health violation. Somebody needs to review their policies regarding that. All in all, the place had some top notch food.

The service was good. I like the location and ambiance. The problem: the food lacked flavor. I also didn't think it was a good value. I had two crab legs and 4 shrimp for $30. Yes it came with a salad (I upgraded to a BLT wedge for $2 and shoulda kept my money). My shrimp was fried but they were not crispy. My crab legs were a lil over cooked, they were flavorless and tough. My "yelp" friends steered me wrong this time. I'm only giving 2 stars cause I feel bad. But the food gets two thumb down.

Great dinner at a new seafood place. Enjoyed the drinks and the coconut shrimp and scallop platter. Had a group of 8 and service was great. Enjoyed the meal and multiple people I our group mentioned this was their best meal while at Fort Myers. Great night out.

Prawnbroker is always a stop for my wife and I every time we come down to visit her dad here in Fort Myers, and not just because he lives relatively close. Service is usually pretty good, even on their busiest days. Most of the waitstaff we've had are personable and seem friendly. Of course, every so often you might get one who is rushed, hurried, and doesn't want to be there, but such is life. This trip down I had the crab-stuffed tilapia from the "specials" menu with lobster sauce - very good. My wife had the almond-crusted shrimp (yummy), and my father-in-law enjoyed his stuffed shrimp. He also loves their crunchy grouper when in season. Each meal includes warm bread which is pretty good (but a pain/mess to cut at the table), and we really like the shrimp bisque soup-it's worth the upcharge. Overall, we've always liked the place and will be sure to return!

This was a great experience dining here tonight. First, they offered an early bird special with a great savings to us for a sacrifice of only 3ozs of fish. The sides were the same, three of them with a wonderful loaf of bread made at restaurant daily. Great atmosphere clean and friendly workers I counted at least three workers saying thank you for coming as we were leaving. Our waiter was William (Bill). He did a fantastic job. My three star is a great report. I do not believe in 5 stars. A five star report is few and far between and has to be ridiculously great restaurant with Kobe beef with a huge wine list. Too many folks are giving five stars out of a hat. Not good. Five star is just that FIVE STAR!!!!

Bad service . Bad food .Takes too long to get the order . Same to get the bill. And they include the gratuity on the bill for to people The worst experience I ever had at a restaurant ..Everything from the food, service to the management was beyond bad.

OUTSTANDING restaurant. Staff was very friendly and serviceable. Surprised at how quick of a turnaround a fine sit-down restaurant like that had. I had the shrimp trio, and it was phenomenal. Some of the best shrimp I've ever had. Definitely would recommend to anyone in the Fort Myers area. A little high on price, but you definitely get every penny that you pay for.

The stuffed shrimp was very good. The oysters were good. But the lobster tails were kind of disappointing. The service is good. Nothing special. Glad they also open on Christmas day. Pls remember to make a reservation before you go there.

Spent my Sunday evening eating at Prawnbrokers. The Smoked fish dip (think smoked salmon) appetizer was delicious. The toasted bread it is served within equally fantastic. The two together were heaven. I also had the fried crunchy grouper with veggies and a sweet potato. The crust of the grouper was good as was the fish. The sides complemented the fish well. Oh, and their serving of bread was delicious. Lots to eat. Would definitely return.

Great atmosphere, large menu selection. Food came fast and was delicious. I had the crab legs, melted in my mouth, didn't even need butter. Also appropriate place for well behaved kids.

I've been here a few times and each time parking was an issue, so I cannot give it 5 stars...4.5 surely. It's on the way to Sanibel. It's thoughtfully arranged. The help is informative and friendly. The ambiance is subtle and calming. All the food is quite fresh and service is quick even considering the crowded dining room. Drinks have the right kick and the fish has always been melt in your mouth fresh. I'd recommend it to anyone: to eliminate the parking issue get there by 5 or after 8. This is Florida, after all.

The BEST shrimp around. Love them plain fried and a shrimp cocktail is must. Both clam chowders are excellent. Dill ranch dressing for the salad and key lime pie for dessert. Oh, and the bread! Wait staff is very attentive and most have worked here for many years...that says a lot.

The Prawn broker was a decent experience. The service was top notch but the food was below average. It is definitely a snowbird community type attraction with dated decor from the 70s. The chowder was good and the ranch dressing was wonderful. The fish was below average. The grouper mantanzas had far too much sauce on it, making me skeptical it was masking the freshness of the fish. The swordfish was good but did not offer much flavor and was overlooked. Another sign it might not be fresh. My Galveston oysters would have been good had they not been soggy from the zucchini and squash medley's excess water all over the plate. The oysters did not taste that fresh either. The bread was fresh, but not much else tasted that way. We probably won't be back but wish all the best to the Prawn broker:)

food was good, service great, allowed our dog on the back patio. Very reasonable prices for the amount of food we ordered. enjoyed the blackened grouper, stone crab, sirloin and clam chowder.

Good restaurant. Menu like the old seafood restaurants in Philly. My wife had the broiled seafood platter and i had the broiled grouper. Wife dinner was very good. My grouper however was under seasoned and over cooked and a little dry. The place was full for a weeknight and it looked like a lot of locals eat here. I would give them amother try but 2 strikes and your out.

I honestly just don't understand the RAVE reviews. This is supposed to be the best fish in town, in a sea costal town? No. The server recommended a horrible fish for a friend of mine that did not like aromatic fish - and when it came out and she hadn't eaten a bit if it (beyond the initial taste, we all had some and agreed it was extremely fishy - why someone would recommend that for anyone that said they don't like extremely fishy foods is beyond me), the server asked, "So how was the fish?" My friend responded, "it wasn't good, I didn't eat it." The server spun on her heels and walked off. No "I'm sorry it wasn't good," "maybe we can get something else," nothing. In fact, we only saw our server three times. Taking our order, serving it, and asking how it was/taking the bill. The rest of the food was mediocre at best - I've had swordfish everywhere but never so overcooked. My other friend raved about the Fra Diablo, so this bumps to three stars. Fra Diablo is hard to get right, but seriously, overlooked fish, and wait staff that don't know fish in a coastal restaurant? Boring vegetables and bland soup. Dinner for three and no extras (we all had water) was $100. For fish. We could have had steak and lobster at red lobster - and better service.

Great calamari and clam chowder. I don't think there's anything bad about it. If you go later at night, you have a good chance of seeing some Twins players dining late at night. This was our second time eating here, each time with large groups, and they did a fantastic job of making ours an enjoyable evening.

I give this place a 3.9. I had the seafood diabolo. Spicy marinara linguini with shrimp, mussels, grouper, swordfish, and scallop. The scallop was small and singular but it was delicious. It was kinda like ciappino but over pasta. For being a "scrape off the bottom of the boat" type of dish, it was all very fresh and tasty even through the cayenne pepper flavor. This place has fair prices for fresh fish. I like it and think I'll go for something more savory next time. Good job Pawnbroker!

My husband and I randomly came here for his birthday dinner. He ordered the grouper special with crab and I had the crunchy shrimp platter. We both really liked our meals. The shrimp were large (it came with 6). I appreciated that the entrees all came with salad, side (starch) and some veggies. Also they serve bread with dinner. My husband had the clam chowder which he liked. Our meals with two drinks came to $66 without tip. So a little more than Red Lobster but we felt the food was more fresh and worth it. The only suggestion we would give would be that the Caesar salad needs homemade croutons and fresh grated cheese. Service was good. We came late on a Sunday night and had no trouble getting seated and served. Everyone was nice and friendly. We will definitely be back!

Meal was excellent, chef prepared a lobster diavolo for my wife and it came out perfect. We also had the sea bass, stuffed tilapia and the king crab legs. All was good and service top notch! Will definitely be a regular stop during our stays in Ft Myers.

Fantastic menu selection, lots of choices for sides. Full bar, great service. The New England Clam Chowder was excellent. We ordered the scallop entree and one of the grouper specials. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. It is pricey, but the portions are large and you get a lot for your money.

NOT a good dining experience tonight. Our waitress Jacqueline was a complete 'no show" of a server tonight. She started us off with COLD chowder and bisque. Then another server brought out the entrees while my dining partner was STILL eating the replacement salad. He offered this sentiment "by the time you finish your salad, your meal will be cool enough for you to eat"! No Kidding! He knew that it was NOT spaced out correctly. My entrée was hot enough to eat, however, my dining partner's meal wasn't as fortunate. But, not wanting to waste the food, he ate most of it. Been going here for over 12yrs, so we know the standard. It's seems to have lost some luster. They have to hire "better" servers!

The Prawnbroker Grill in Fort Myers LIES on 2 counts: 1. Their website says: "Happy Hour 4:00 to 7:00 pm "featuring discounted cocktails and appetizers." There are no discounted appetizers. 2. Their website promises "8-ounce pours" (wine) . You get an 8-ounce glass with 6 ounces of wine.

Had a very pleasant dinner last night at the Pawnbroker. I had the lobster special and she had a sea food platter of sorts. Also had the French Onion Soup, which was delightful, and Escargot. The food was good and the atmosphere was great. NO SCEAMING KIDS. I think I finally found a place to dine with adults, where one can have a conversation, glass of wine, and enjoyable evening and not have to tolerate inconsiderate parents of unruly, crying, whiny kids.

ABOVE AVERAGE We've been here a number of times over the years and have always found it to be quite nice. They cater primarily to elderly clientele and no doubt that explains why it has only 2 other reviews. I had the crunchy grouper dinner and thought it was excellent. The accompanying baked potato was like all baked potatoes and the veggies were average. The service was lacking in the personal touch and was slick & breezy. A perfectly nice place for an occasional visit.

Met another couple there for early bird dinner at 4:00 pm yesterday at their suggestion. Hadn't seen them in 6 years so we had some catching up to do. This was a poor choice for that because our waiter rushed us through our meal. He just would not let up. Constantly pushing us to order, pay the check etc. Other than that the food and service was OK but very skimpy portions, especially the crab cakes. More of an appetizer than a meal. The waiter reeked of cigarette smoke. This was a real turn-off.

Eat like a local. It was crowded, so we waited at the bar for a table. You could tell from the crowd that this was a local hangout that the regulars hoped the snowbirds won't find. Reasonable wine by the glass prices. My first selection was corked. The bar tender immediately opened a fresh bottle without giving me "the look". I thought the service was very friendly. I had a shrimp dish which was OK, but everyone else has salmon which they raved over. People. For me the measure of a good meal is the care and quality of the side dish. In our case it was the vegetable medley served with our entrees. Usually this is a toss in, served lifeless and mushy. Not here. All of the veggies were very crisp and crunchy still with full veggie color. My guess is they do these properly in something called a Combi-steamer. We tried to return but our plans didn't allow an encore unfortunately.

Really fantastic, and worth all the positive reviews. When I told my friends I was coming here for dinner, many of them said "oh, that place has been around forever, it will be full of old people." And there were a lot of old people there, but guess what? I really don't choose a restaurant based on the age of my fellow diners (and this is Florida, there are old people everywhere). For $50 including tip, I had an awesome appetizer (the "3+3", which as I recall consists of three clams casino and three oysters rockefeller, highly recommend), a to-die-for entree ("Seafood Fra Diavolo," a whole bunch of different fish cooked in a spicy marinara and served over linguine), and two awesome manhattans. Get the Whiskey Creek Manhattan, for $6 it's actually very well priced and has the best presentation of a manhattan I have had in some time. I came on the Sunday night before Labor Day, and it wasn't as crowded as I thought it might be. The service was impeccable, and the whole experience was just perfect from start to finish. And the helpings were so generous, I took food home with me, which is incredibly rare for me. Go to the Prawnbroker!

Haven't been to this restaurant in years. Now I know why. Our service was average and our food was bland. Nothing we ate had flavor accept the Manhattan clam chowder. The New England chower tasted like potato soup. It wasn't cooked long enough. My shrimp scampi was average and bland. The other entree which was stuffed shrimp with scallops and grouper. It was bland as well. Bottom line it tasted like hospital food. I had to use the rest room because I had uncooked potatoes from the NE Clam Chowder stuck in my teeth. While I was in the rest room there was an eldery man that missed the urinal. He proceeded to urinate on the wall and floor. At that point it was time to get the check and leave. Never ever to return!! Very disappointed!!

If you are a believer in wine accompanying good food, this should not top your list. A pitiful and expensive selection, and they didn't even allow corkage when we brought a respectable bottle from our cellar. The waitress said that it was against the law in FL. I checked the codes on line and there is no such law forbidding, which made her surly. Perhaps that was why our meal sucked. We've eaten there many times before, which was the reason for brining our own wine, but we will never darken these doors again. Rushed marginally prepared food, served in an average but pompous environment.

Loved Prawnproker so much we went here twice while honeymooning. The swordfish I had flaked away with ease and tasted so delicious with the crab and bacon cheese topping. My wife got the steak upgrade for $1 (worth it) to go with her almond crusted shrimp she still raves about days later. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

My boyfriend and I went to Prawnbrokers last night. And I have to tell you the food was pretty bland. We had fried calamari appetizer and martinis first. The calamari was good but not great. For dinner I ordered the grouper Matanzas and my boyfriend had the steak and lobster dinner. Both were under seasoned. He had to ask for A1 sauce. Mind you, the steak and lobster entree was $30 all by itself. My grouper was decent but the veggies that came with, seemed under cooked. We assume they are used to cooking for seniors because it was a much older crowd and nothing had salt. Nothing. Our server was very nice but I would not go back to this restaurant. Big waste of money. :-/

All I have to say is wow! What a pleasant surprise. We are on our way to Captiva for vacation and saw that Prawnbroker had great reviews on Yelp. Originally from Florida , I am a seafood snob. And second to that is my quest for the perfect dirty martini. We are still trying to decide which rated the highest: The perfectly chilled martini or the oysters topped with caviar , the grouper topped with crabmeat , the escargot or the soft shell crab. Yep, we tried a little of everything;)!! And to make the evening even better was stellar service performed by Michelle and Tim . We will definitely be back.... In the mean time, we are heading to Timbers in Sanibel while we are on the island. It's part of the Prawnbroker family , and Tim will be there Friday ..... GOOD TIMES!!

Holy Cow. This place has atmosphere up the wazoo. We were a party of 9 with a reservation and we went to the table right on the dot. Food, cocktails, server, the hostess, the whole experience was first-rate. This is a real Florida place run by locals. Your date will reward you for the experience. I can't wait to go back here.

Mediocre at best. We like seafood. We really like it. We also know that the less that is done to seafood the better it is. It does not need tons of butter or sauces to make it good. If you don't agree then, by all means, go here. If you do agree, then go someplace else.

Good place to get a variety of seafood dinners. They do offer a few meat dishes but their specialty is seafood. Always have daily specials. Love their yellow tail snapper (when they have it) or their sword fish with Gorgonzola and spinach topping, and their house salad with the house dressing - dill ranch.

Great place with excellent food! Wife and I found it by chance but will definitely return when we are in Ft. Myers! The stuffed shrimp are fantastic!

I thought this place was really great - just the kind of seafood joint you'd expect in Southwest Florida. We had a special tequila oyster appetizer that was yummy and unique and I had the lobster tail as an entree plus some very tasty clam chowder. Keep in mind they close on the early side, around 9:30 p.m.

Amazing food! The shrimp scampi was juicy, buttery and delicious. Others had lobster tail, lemon chicken, and crunchy shrimp. Everything was perfect! We highly recommend Prawnbroker! It is pricy, but worth every penny!

Not one of my favorite places. The food was so so. The prices are high. Now this is just my opinion. My friends love this place. I had seafood and I really love seafood so I have much higher expectations than a most. My friend had the sirloin steak and I tried it... well I know that sirloin is not the best cut of meat but this was a bit tough and bland in flavor. He had it cooked Medium so maybe thats what was wrong. On a positive note the steak was cooked perfect. On another positve note, the service was impeccable. This place was very clean and the staff were warm and welcoming. I will try it one more time and then post another review.

Great service from Donna. Enjoyed the fresh soft shell crab. Always a good experience with their fresh seafood.

I'm really not impressed with this place. Sure, they got a great menu with lot's of nice choices but nothing has ever made me go "WOW". We've been there about three times. Every time I had great expectations (esp after always waiting for a table for over 30 minutes) but was quickly brought back to reality... Nothing wrong with this place but also nothing really that stands out. Will probably not be back.

First dozen oysters gone! This place seated about 225 people and they have a great menu and bar. They had one particular dish that was Crusted Grouper and was outstanding. The wait staff and bartenders were very friendly and will surely go back the next time I am in the area.

One of my favorite places to go when I am in Fort Myers. My usual is to start with the Oysters Romanoff -- oysters on the half-shell with a dollop of sour cream, caviar and finely chopped shallots. Oh... My... Gosh - drooling just thinking about them. After that, everything pales. The fish is fresh and good. The wine list is so-so. If you go, ask to sit in waiter, Dave's section. You will LOVE hearing him tell you all the side dishes you can order. ;)

My parents and I had an excellent dinner at Prawnbroker. Every part of the meal was just right. We split the smoked fish dip appetizer, which was so delicious, we ended up buying a small container to go from their take-away counter. Both their New England and Manhattan clam chowders were outstanding. I had the Manhattan, and it was chunky and flavorful, with a nice peppery bite to it. We each had different kinds of fish for our entrees, and all were perfectly prepared. I had the wasabi crusted salmon which was covered in teriyaki to temper and compliment the heat of the wasabi. There's nothing really special about the ambiance of the restaurant, but the food is truly excellent. The prices are reasonable, and the service was friendly and prompt. I'm looking forward to a return visit next winter!

Came here one night for dinner while on vacation and will definitely be back. The decor and furniture is not so modern and just reminds you of an older family restaurant, but the food is delicious and the service is great. My wife and I both got different shrimp dishes and both were excellent. The shrimp cocktail app was awesome. Huge, fresh shrimp, what else could you ask for. Decently priced as well. I will come back here at least once every time I'm in Fort Myers.

Great seafood, good variety, usually a wait during peak dinner hours. Good service, helpful staff. The fried oysters were excellent. I'll go back.

1st, make a reservation - There is always a waiting line to get in. That in itself says something. The food is very good and the variety is original. The prices are higher in comparison to Red Lobster, but the quality is sooo much better! Great stuff. I'll be back.

My family has been going to the Prawnbroker for many, many years and the place is always consistent. For a family of 5 adults we spent $172, including tip, so the place is not cheap. We all had seafood with appetizers but no alcohol. Two had Alaska king crab legs, one had surf and turf, one had shrimp scampi and one had a steak. Appetizers were oysters Rockefeller, clams casino and fried calamari. Everyone's plate was clean and we left very full and satisfied. If you are the Fort Myers area, FMB or Sanibel area this place is worth visiting.

My all time favorite seafood restaurant. Ever. The shrimp bisque is freaking amazing. I've never tasted anything so delicious. I love the crunchy shrimp too. Breaded in corn flakes and butterflied. Huge gulf shrimp. So tasty! Get a reservation, the snow birds take this place over. Also parking is super limited.

Good food! Love the clam chowder. The bread was so-so but the soup made up for it. I had the broiled seafood platter which was good but the waitress said it include swordfish and they gave me something else. It still was good and I recommend it to you if you're in Fort Myers.

This place has been my jam since I was a kid..the crunchy grouper is the best you can find, something about the breading makes my mouth water. The warm bread that they serve with the dinner is so delicious and the atmosphere just makes me feel at home. This is my favorite for family occasions.

We had a great dinner here last week. Excellent service to begin with. The four of us stayed true to some other reviews and had both the shrimp bisque and the chowder to start. Both were delicious. Not for those watching calories but for those looking for a tasty start. Oh and two small loaves of fresh bread brought to table. We also all felt like something on the fried side and had the catfish, the crunchy shrimp and the coconut shrimp. Rarely eat fried food but on vacation so what the heck. Ok....,the shrimps were excellent and tasty. You get six to seven and they are large ones. A salad comes with the entrees as well as a side. The salad was good and chose baked and sweet potatoes for the sides. The catfish was very large and also delicious. With the coconut shrimp they give some sweet plum sauce for dipping...yum. Too full for dessert. Nothing fancy inside but food is what is important to me.

I moved to Florida in 1995, and this was one of the top restaurants in the area. I think since then it's changed hands, changed chefs, and had a few other changes, and now the food just isn't as consistently good. It's better than in was for a few years a while back. It was kinda a crap shoot as to whether the chef was in a good mood or not. Food was over cooked, seasoned strangely (in a not-good way), and service was bad. It's gotten significantly better since then, but the place has definitely suffered. I can honestly say I have never ordered off their regular menu. They have a 2 page simple menu that seems really boring when you look at it. Then when you get to the table you're handed a legal-size sheet of paper with their daily specials on it. Many of them don't change, but this way if they happen to not be able to get a particular fish, they don't have to put it on the menu, or sadly inform customers they're out. Andrew S. is very right in saying you'll look out of place in shorts, or even jeans. I've seen people go in like that, but it's not necessarily the best decision. The place is always crazy air-conditioned (like most places in Fort Myers), so bring a sweater. The food is generally good, anymore. honestly I haven't been there in a while, so I don't know if they're on an up or down swing. If they ever get stable again, they'll do well. They used to be great... Update: 8/17/07 I'm home visiting my parents for a few weeks and we went here with my grandparents and the food, I am happy to say is good again. My salmon (which I almost always order) was cooked to perfection. The dill sauce was perfect, and the only real complaint I had was that there was too much dressing on my salad, which most other people wouldn't complain about. My mom loved her tripletail, my dad enjoyed his Grouper Matanzas (it was stuffed with shrimp or something).

Stopped here with some friends while in town at a conference. I didn't think it was particularly fancy. The fish I ordered was good, not great, and my friends had similar opinions of theirs. I would say it was a good value for this meal though, having ordered similar dishes at other restaurants. I would return there, but would probably try some other places first to decide how much I liked it. One thing I think that is odd about many seafood restaurants is how little their staff know about which of their fish may be sustainably fished.

Oh...where do I begin? This is one of the finest restaurants you will ever visit. I love it. Have been eating here for about the past 20 years and it continues to be my favorite restaurant in SW Florida. The almond shrimp and crunchy grouper are two of my favorites, but I don't think I have ever had any bad food at The Prawnbroker. Lovely atmosphere, great service, and near-perfect food. This place has it all.***UPDATED REVIEW*** OK, since I wrote my first review here I have been back to The Prawnbroker TWICE and both times my fish (different kinds each trip) was undercooked and rather tasteless. Sort of leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth (literally). I don't know what happened because generally you can't miss with The Prawnbroker. So, not sure if they had a new cook/chef and he's gone now or what. If they are back to doing things the way they always had before, then I would definitely recommend it. But, not sure if they are...so good luck if you try it.
